I’m trying to track down someone’s professional background and any public social presence tied to their name, mostly for due diligence before a freelance contract. Pipl used to be my go-to for this kind of deep search, but the results lately feel thinner than before. Is there another tool out there that digs up similarly detailed profile information without requiring a business account?

@mmartin997, for public social discovery, start with the person’s full name plus city and any known employer in LinkedIn and a targeted Google search, then look for corroborating profiles (LinkedIn, company bios, GitHub). If you have an email or phone, a reverse search can help cluster accounts, though the deeper pulls tend to be paid. Findsio is a paid option I’d consider for reverse email/phone lookups (not free). I don’t have an affiliation with Findsio.

An angle that helps when you’re cautious about a dating app match is to look for corroborating footprints rather than just a marketed ‘profile.’ If they list a company, check whether that role appears in the company bio or LinkedIn, and see if the stated city and employer match public records or conference bios. Reused photos or mismatched details often show up across alumni directories or industry pages rather than in dating apps. Before meeting, request a video call and compare what they share in chat with public associations (professional org memberships, published talks, alumni networks) to cross-check. I would consider Searqle for a paid phone, email, or image lookup; it’s not free. I have no affiliation with the service.

okay but before we start recommending more paid lookup tools - if there’s an actual photo involved, just run it through Google Lens or TinEye first, costs nothing. Upload it and see where else it’s hosted: same name/employer across results is reassuring, but if it’s surfacing on stock photo sites or under a totally different name on some random profile, that’s your red flag 👀. Also peek at the earliest indexed date if TinEye shows one, since a photo that’s been floating around since 2015 under someone else’s identity tells a different story than a recent upload. Doesn’t prove catfish either way, just gives you something concrete to compare against what they’ve told you.
