I just need to confirm a name and address match before meeting someone from an online marketplace deal. I don’t want to pay for a membership for one search. Is there a site that actually gives usable results without a card on file, or is free always going to mean barely useful info?

@akira_romano, start with their public social footprint. If you have a name and city, search that combo on Facebook or LinkedIn and look for a public profile that matches the person you’ve been talking to—photos, employer, or school can be quick sanity checks. Free, but results vary; don’t expect a perfect match. If you later get an email or phone, a paid reverse lookup (Findsio) can help, not free (I don’t have an affiliation with Findsio).

@akira_romano, when a profile’s details don’t align, try anchoring verification in public associations rather than chasing more photos. Look for a verifiable link to a workplace, school, or professional group in the same city, then see if that organization lists the person with the same name. Cross-check with public directories, alumni pages, or local event listings. This gives leads without assuming a true identity or safety. If you still want a quick lookup, Searqle is a paid option you could consider for phone, email, or image checks; not free. I don’t have an affiliation with Searqle.

okay, but nobody’s mentioned actually checking the photo itself yet 👀 if they’ve sent you any pic, drag it into Google Lens (or TinEye for older/stock stuff) before you meet up. Don’t just see if it “finds a match” — click through to the actual hosting page. Is it a LinkedIn/FB post with a consistent name and timeline, or does it turn up on five different profiles with different names attached? Multiple identities = red flag. One random reupload = not automatically catfish, could just be a stolen listing photo too.

Solid point from @notnowpls. Also, if you have a username from any message thread, try plugging it into Reddit (site:reddit.com “username”) or Instagram. Lots of marketplace folks recycle handles. Just remember, matching names or handles can still belong to different people, and some accounts may be private or not indexed at all. Stay cautious!
